By partnering with Wyma, Lundstad Grønt boosted polishing capacity by 30% and cut water use by 75%, setting their line up for future growth.
Consultative Partnership Drives Efficiency Gains at Lundstad Grønt
When Lundstad Grønt, a Norwegian carrot producer based in Kolbu, began exploring ways to expand its optical grading capacity, the project quickly evolved into a full-line optimisation journey in collaboration with Wyma.
The initial goal was to upgrade the site’s Newtec Celox optical grader to improve throughput and accuracy. However, after a broader line assessment, it became clear that the grader was not the core issue. A root cause analysis revealed wider inefficiencies within the existing wash and handling line, equipment that could no longer meet the company’s growing ambitions for productivity, sustainability, and reliability.
Through Wyma’s consultative approach, the discussion shifted from a single-machine replacement to a long-term vision for the future. Together, Wyma and Lundstad Grønt designed a 10 tonne per hour carrot processing line that delivers greater capacity, flexibility, and efficiency while reducing water, energy, and labour inputs.
Highlighted equipment in the new line includes a Wet Hopper C-Series, Hedgehog Top Remover, Cyclone Destoner, Octal Conveyors, Flume systems, Barrel Washer and a Vege Polisher V2B, providing the ability to pre-soak, wash, polish, grade, and bulk-store or pack product, with the flexibility to divert stages as needed.
This partnership began several years earlier when Lundstad Grønt invested in a smaller Wyma Vege Polisher, which exceeded expectations for product finish and reliability. That success laid the foundation for a trusted relationship and ultimately led to Wyma’s involvement in the full line upgrade.
Since installation, the new system has delivered impressive results:
-
Polishing capacity has increased by 30%, replacing two older polishers with a single Vege Polisher 3016 V2B.
-
Water use has been reduced by approximately 75%, alongside significant power savings.
-
Improved sorting accuracy on the Celox optical grader, now up to 25% higher thanks to more consistent product presentation from Wyma’s flat-bed brusher.
-
Greater overall line uptime and reduced run hours, supported by enhanced bunker storage efficiency.
The outcome is a future-ready wash line that enables Lundstad Grønt to process more carrots, more consistently, using fewer resources, achieving their goal of doing more with less.
Due to the success of this project, Lundstad Grønt are now planning further investment alongside Wyma, including a peeling line with Roto-Cut trimming and a new packaging line. The trust built through this collaboration continues to strengthen the partnership and shape Lundstad Grønt’s future growth.
